This page shows visual examples of, and the type of imagery that can be produced as a result of different types of printmaking techniques. All examples were made by people who attended workshops that were run by Artist Sarah Godfrey.

THE INTAGLIO -TYPE PROCESS

Since 2001 Sarah Godfrey has been developing and researching the non -toxic Intaglio-type printmaking technique (as developed by Prof.Keith Howard Rit.) after becoming increasing ill due to serious side efects caused by the use of the toxic mix of chemicals in employed in traditional etching techniques. Sponsored by Arts Council England Sarah has set up her Printmaking studio to teach others the new vocabulary of mark making achievable by this revolutionary technique.

Prints made by people who attended the 'Introduction to the Intaglio-type ' These include images made directly from found objects, from drawings and from images photocopied onto aceyate

Collgraph and Carborunhum prints The Collagraph is best described as a collage print technique. Where the image is composed from a variety of textured materials glued to a plate(piece of cardboard) and either printed by intaglio or releif methods( with a printing press or with a roller). The Carborundhum Print is made by sticking to this cardboard liquid materials such as glues, tile grout etc which create tone in the final printed image.

Drypoint printmaking This technique involves using a 'dry'point such as a sharp nail to scratch an image or design into a smooth surface such as perspex. Ink is then rubbed into these scratches and the smooth surface cleaned, It is then printed using a traditional etchning press.

Monoprinting This technique means to make a 'one off' print, these can be made in many different ways, either printing directly from found objects, using stencils, making marks to print from with inks.. it is endless, experimental, and always fun...
