stencils, making marks to print from with inks.. it is endless, experimental, and always fun. *Special opportunity this October Due to previous advertised courses for October being filled another date has been arranged so you still have the opportunity to have a go..... Revolutionary Spit bite and Stencil Intaglio-type Printmaking courses. Over the last few years the Intaglio-type printmaking process has become increasingly poplular. It is completely non-toxic and produces a wealth of mark making possibilites through its quick and easy method. One of the family of Intaglio-type techniques is the Spit-bite technique. This involves painting developer (soap water) selectively onto the printmaking plate. Areas which are painted create tonal marks, the stronger the developer or the longer you leave it on the plate the darker the mark. Marks can be manipulated by using wax as a resist to the developer and also vegetable oil can be mixed with the developer to create marbled effects. This technique can be pushed further when combined with the Stencil technique. This involves cutting stencils into the film which can be developed individually to create highly sophisticated imagery in a simple way. the opportunity to play with their approach to image making and combining printmaking techniques. Classes are kept small and everyone can work at their own pace. We will then take these one step furher by then collaging these different collages together when it comes to printing. We will use different colours, and layer these to make muli plates prints , different colours....different textures..... what fun! These can be kept as simple or as complicated as you wish, this course is suitable for anyone , whatever their level of printmaking experience.
Tues 9th Dec -Carborundum Prints inspired by Primitive Arts £42 Carborundum printing plates are made by painting liquid materials such as glue, tile grout, pumice gels etc to a smooth surface. The more gritty the liquid material that is painted on the more ink that area of the plate will hold when inked, therefore Glue will print a white area as it has no gritt to hold the ink. Carborundum prints are rich in tone, very intuitive and a simple way to create wonderful prints. We will be looking at primitive art for our inpiration such as aboriginal painting, cave paintings, eskimo drawings, concentrating on creating prints full of rich colours, and patterns,
